Air Conditioner Repair Guide: Saving Yourself
From Repair Cost
Probably, the most expensive appliance found
inside your house is your central air conditioner. Due to the
complexity of these appliances, the repair cost skyrockets and
usually ranges between $150 and $500. Fortunately, ordinary
people, including you, can do simple air conditioner repair and
maintenance.
Usually, an air conditioner has four major
problems: it does not cool, it does not turn on, it makes noises
and it produces water pools. No matter what the problem is,
air conditioner repair should be done while the air conditioner is
turned off and unplugged, and the temperature is warm.
Generally, an air
conditioner that does
not cool down properly may just need to be maintained and
cleaned. If this is the case, wipe any signs of debris inside
and outside the system. After you have disassembled all
possible parts that are easily removed, clean the interior with
soft brush.
On the other hand, if your air
conditioner is not turning on after checking all possible faults
you have made, then either the thermostat or compressor is
faulty. The moment that the thermostat or compressor is not
working, call a professional technician immediately and do not
attempt to replace the thermostat and repair the
compressor.
The squeal sounds of your air
conditioner signify that the belt connecting the motor and fan has
slipped or worn. If so, realign and adjust the belt to its
proper place or purchase a new belt for your air conditioner.
On the other hand, if the air duct is making noises, place a
ductwork between the heating and cooling system.
Air conditioner, in general,
creates high amount of condensation that is carried out into a
floor drain. Water pooling at the base of your air
conditioner only implies that there is a blockage in the water flow
or a leakage. The leakage signifies that there may be a hole
in one of the tubes. If this is the case, replace the
tube.
Normally, ice is responsible for the
blockage. This may happen if there are algae or debris on the
filter. However, if the filter is cleaned from debris and
microorganisms, the refrigerant supply of the air conditioner is
probably low.
Typically, professional air conditioner repair people are the only
ones who are advised to do repairs and maintenance. In a
world where practicality dominates, it is already predicted that
most people would rather choose to repair their appliances alone
than getting help from a professional.
